Consultant Psychiatrist

(0.2 FTE / One Day a Week) 

Whakamatutu is seeking an experienced and passionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join our dynamic team on a part-time basis. This role offers the unique opportunity to work within a modern, therapeutically designed environment, alongside a friendly and collaborative team, delivering an integrated, recovery-focused mental health programme. 

 

About Whakamātūtū 

Whakamātūtū is a specialized, evidence-based, and culturally responsive mental health programme designed to support recovery and enhance the wellbeing of tāngata whai ora. Our approach ensures each participant receives tailored care, emphasising culturally grounded support and collaborative care. We are committed to providing services that align with Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural safety, and health equity. 

 

The Role 

As our Consultant Psychiatrist, you will play a critical role in our integrated 6-week group programme, which supports individuals experiencing moderate to severe mental illness. In addition to the key responsibilities outlined below, you will also be involved in ADHD assessments as part of our comprehensive diagnostic approach. 

  • Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis: 

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to establish clear diagnoses, including ADHD assessments, and guide treatment planning. 

  • Medication Management: 

  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications and adjust treatment regimens in close collaboration with our treatment team. 

  • Integration with Group Programming: 

  • Work alongside group therapists to ensure seamless integration of pharmacological care with therapeutic interventions. 

  • Provide expert clinical guidance on symptom management, crisis intervention, and medication-related concerns. 

  • Risk Management and Safety: 

  • Identify and manage any emerging risks or crises, ensuring a safe environment for all participants. 

  • Culturally Responsive and Holistic Care: 

  • Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles into clinical practice. 

  • Support a holistic model of care that addresses psychiatric, physical, social, and spiritual wellbeing. 

  • Professional Collaboration and Development: 

  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and programme enhancement discussions. 

  • Engage in continuous professional development, clinical supervision, and mentoring.
