Sous-Chef

Position: Part-Time Sous-Chef 
Location: Whakamātūtū, Central Wellington 
Hours: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM, two days per week 
Employment Type: Part-Time 

Whakamātūtū provides a short-term, integrated, recovery-oriented and culturally safe programme for people with mental health needs within a supportive and therapeutic community.  It is a therapeutic community centre focusing on interpersonal group psychotherapy, and different therapies like music, art, massage and rongoā.   

About the Role 

As our Sous-Chef, you will work alongside our Chef to prepare and deliver high-quality, wholesome meals that reflect the values of Whakamātūtū. This role is perfect for someone who is looking to use their culinary skills in a meaningful way, while enjoying a part-time schedule that offers work-life balance. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Preparation and cooking of meals for our community programs. 

  • Support the Chef in menu planning, and maintaining kitchen standards. 

  • Ensure all food is prepared to the highest standard and in line with food safety regulations. 

  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to create a welcoming and supportive environment. 

  • Help manage stock levels and minimize food waste. 

What We’re Looking For 

  • Proven experience as a Sous-Chef or similar role. 

  • A passion for creating delicious, healthy meals. 

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills. 

  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
